Principal's Message: November 1, 2009
Hello Northgate Community,
It has been a hectic and exciting first quarter of school, I have many wonderful pieces of news and celebrations to share with you:
Clean up day a huge success:
If you have visited campus before and after September 26th you will have immediately noticed the dramatic changes to our campus due to Fall Clean Up day. The powerful team of Donna Warnken-Brill, Patty Proctor, and Linda Middleton pulled off nothing short of a minor miracle organizing 500 volunteers and mobilizing this group to paint, trim, clean, plant, irrigate, scrub and wax our school into a beautiful, almost new school. Thank you to all the great volunteers and hats off to our amazing team!
Northgate High Welcomes Jon Campopiano as new Vice Principal:
This past Tuesday, October 29, 2009, the MDUSD Board of Education approved the appointment of Jon Campopiano as Vice Principal at Northgate High. Mr. Campopiano is a legend in the Northgate community, former student, championship baseball coach, athletic director and beloved history teacher; Mr. Campopiano will join the administrative team November 1st. Please congratulate him when you have a chance.
Northgate Athletics alive and well thanks to our Community!
Jennifer Crosthwaite, Kent Caldwell, provided amazing leadership for our school and district in meeting our goals to keep athletics alive. The MDUSD Board voted last night to continue athletics due to our tireless leaders, and dynamic community. The jewel in the crown of this achievement was the 5K fun/run. Northgate student Madie Hagen a junior won the district wide prize of an I-pod Nanno for collecting the most sponsorships. In addition, Northgate athletes led the district in contributions with 100% participation in transportation and contributions. I cannot thank the parents, students, coaches and athletic director Jon Campopiano enough for their efforts.
French IV AP through Powerspeak approved by Board
If your child is interested in taking French IV Advanced Placement French via Powerspeak, which is an on-line computer class, please contact Ms. Hayes. The MDUSD Board recently approved this course.
Finally
Now into my second year as Principal, and I can report to you I have never been more pleased in my 24 previous years in public education. Every day I spend time in classrooms and see students and teachers doing amazing things. Northgate is a special place; I assure you we are on our way to defining what excellence in education is all about.
